Marion Eichmann explores cities. She seeks direct experiences on location – seeing, touching, hearing, smelling, and tasting her way into the tumult of the world. Juxtaposed colors, countless emerging patterns and forms, webs of lines, the lure of what is in front and behind – all of these become apparent to me immediately upon observation. She captures these in drawings, as “drawing is like deciphering”.
This preliminary work leads to colorful pages and collages, as well as to installations that fill showcases and rooms. She uses paper, cardboard, wood, and found objects. The artist “tips”, as it were, the image narrative from the surface into the space.
Based on the example of various large megacities, the artist J42born in 1974 in Essen goes back and forth between different levels of perception and reality. The intense and the cool, the emotional and the rational: these go hand in hand in her work and lend it a distinctive character.
